CR 57 Closed at Forest Service Campground

May 11, 2022 – Cook County Highway Department is closing County Road (CR) 57/Devil Track Road from the Devil Track Forest Service Campground at the end of the pavement to Solberg Lane due to flooding and road washout.

Highway department graders cleared remaining snow, ice and downed trees from the typically unplowed Bally Creek Road (FR 158) to provide a detour route to The Grade (FR 170).

Motorists who must access CR 57 between Solberg Lane and Bally Creek Road should use the following detour: from Devil Track Road, detour to the right/north on Ball Club Rd/CR 27; turn left/west at The Grade; and turn left/south on Bally Creek Road, which is cleared to the west end of CR 57. Motorists who don’t need to access nearby homes should avoid the area until flooding subsides.

“A pond east of Solberg Lane has backed up a significant amount of water onto the roadway, and an additional inch of rain is predicted overnight,” said Maintenance Supervisor Josh Dix. “It could become dangerous to drive through the water as the roadbed becomes more saturated, so we are closing the road until conditions improve.”

Cook County Highway Department will continue to monitor the situation. The department will reopen the road as soon as flooding subsides and any needed roadway repairs are completed.
