Highway 61 near Two Harbors bridge construction virtual meeting Wednesday

On Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 5:30 p.m., MnDOT staff will be holding a virtual information meeting about construction on the Stewart River and Silver Creek bridges north of Two Harbors. Construction at Stewart River will begin April 18, and construction at Silver Creek will resume on May 16.  

The meeting can be logged in to online via WebEx and a phone call in option is available. Visit the project website for the link to the meeting and call-in number as well as for more details about the project. The meeting will be recorded and put on the website at the same link for later viewing.  MnDOT invites and encourages participation by all. Silver Creek Bridge
  • Construction of new bridge replacing box culvert and including bike/ped crossing on bridge
  • Stream restoration
  • Extension of old Hwy 61 to align with Loop Road with sidewalk from bridge to old Hwy 61 extension and provisions for future DNR trail under new bridge
  • New pavement in work zone
  • Tree clearing as needed   
Stewart River Bridge 
  • Rehabilitation of historic bridge with new bike/ped crossing 
  • Historic bridge will carry northbound TH 61 traffic
  • Construction of new bridge inland of historic bridge to carry southbound TH 61 traffic
  • Turn lanes at County Rd 3 and Betty's Pies
  • New pavement in work zone
  • Tree clearing as needed
