Betty White would have turned 100 Monday. After the screen icon passed on New Year’s Eve, animal humane organizations are receiving donations from her fans in her honor, including ones here in the Northland.

The Facebook page Missing Pets In The Northland raised roughly $1,800 in one day for its Betty White Challenge soaring past her thousand dollar goal.

Administrator Jodi Carlson helps people locate lost animals, find homes for strays, and feed them and get them needed veterinary care.

Recently, a cat named Betty White was found and rescued just a day before the actress died, becoming the poster child for the challenge.

“It’s great to be able to go out and buy a bag of food for stray cats and not have to worry where the money’s coming from, get vet care for our critical injured strays and cause we have a little bit of a budget now to help these animals,” Carlson said.

 Missing Pets In the Northland works primarily with strays and lost animals in Carlton County.

Carlson said it’s important especially for stray cats to be checked by a vet for feline leukemia and FIV, because that determines whether or not they can be around other cats.
