Vroom! Screech! Thud! Create a Comic Kits Have Arrived

Jan 11, 2022 12:33PM ● By Editor

From the Grand Marais Public Library - January 11, 2022

This January, Grand Marais Public Library will be distributing Create a Comic Take and Make kits. Created by Minnesota author and illustrator Chris Monroe, the kits are geared toward third graders on up to adults.

Participants create their own wacky characters using draw-along instructions to determine the character’s looks, style, emotions, and ability to take a fall. They then insert the characters into a comic strip using the cartoon-panel pages and felt tip pen provided. Starting January 14, community members of any age are invited to pick up a free Create a Comic Kit from the library while supplies last.

Chris Monroe is an author, illustrator, visual artist and cartoonist. Bug on a Bike and Monkey with a Tool Belt are two of her seven children's picture books. Her illustrations accompany the works of Kevin Kling, Jane Yolen, and Janice Levy. Her comic strip, Violet Days, has been in print for over 19 years, and is featured in the collection "Ultra Violet: Ten Years of Violet Days."

This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. It helps support Grand Marais Public Library’s mission to increase knowledge, inspire creativity, remove barriers, and build community across Cook County. Learn more about take and make kits, free State Parks Passes, and our all-ages Winter Reading Program by calling the library at 218-387-1140, or visit online at
