A bus driver has been charged with three DWI crimes related to an alleged drunk driving incident from last week. Police say Shawn Zelazny, 47, had been behind the wheel of a bus transporting kids from the Denfeld basketball team up to Hibbing last week.

The criminal complaint says Zelazny's preliminary blood alcohol content was .218. The legal limit for bus and commercial drivers is .04.

The coach became concerned about his behavior, and managed to get Zelazny to pull over in Cotton. That's where he was arrested.

Coach Phill Homere said, "I really think this is a rare situation. But personally, in the future, I am definitely going to have more conversations with the driver before we just leave. The team is fine, it's the parents who are more worried. We have a game tomorrow in Hibbing."

He said the owner of the bus company came to drive the bus back, and told them Zelazny will no longer be working for them.

A check of court records shows one prior DWI conviction on his record.
