The Grand Marais Public Library’s Winter Reading Program begins January 10, 2022, and runs through March 25, 2022. This year, the library is expanding its Winter Reading Program to include all ages!

The kids’ program kicks off with a story stroll on the lawn. January 10-15, families can walk and read their way through Ezra Jack Keats’s classic The Snowy Day on their way into the library. Kids choose a ‘Read on the Wild Side/Read on the Quiet Side’ activity book designed for their age group—early childhood, school-age, or tween/teen. The first page of each activity book is a Bingo card with various reading and learning activities. Completing a full row in any direction earns readers the choice of a free book from Drury Lane Books, a free taco from Hungry Hippie Tacos, or a free small hot chocolate or cider from Java Moose.

There’s more in store for youths. The library’s Book Bundles service allows families to sign up online or by phone for single or monthly book bundles. The bundles are curated by a librarian for each child and their interests. This saves parents time and creates a special experience for kids. The Wundrous Readers Society meets for doodling and reading aloud every Wednesday from 4-5pm. The group is currently reading the third book in Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor series, Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow.Said youth librarian Erika Ternes, “The series is aimed at ages 9-12, but all ages are welcome. We catch everyone up as we go and love new readers.”

The adults’ program features the book Bingo and bundles, but aims to ring in a joyful new year with a theme of its own: ‘My Happy Place.’ Making time for pleasurable pastimes and inspiring new interests is the aim. The prize structure for adults includes weekly drawings from February 4 through March 18 with a grand prize drawing happening March 25. Prizes include HappyLight therapy lamps, a bonsai garden starter kit, books and more. Completion of activities earns participants more chances to win prizes.

The Grand Marais Public Library increases knowledge, inspires creativity, removes barriers, and builds community across Cook County. Learn more about the winter reading program and how to participate in Bingo or book bundles by calling the library at 218-387-1140, or visit online at grandmaraislibrary.org
