The mysterious recipe box that has been sitting at Hoops Brewery for three years has finally been returned to its rightful owner, Maggie Cretens. “I didn’t know it was missing, I don’t know where it came from, I just know the name Doris and I recognized my mom’s handwriting,” Cretens said.

Cretens of Duluth was scrolling on social media when a picture of a recipe card caught her eye, with her grandmother’s name listed at the top.

“I was really shocked and I had to look at it again,” Cretens said.

Cretens soon realized all the cards matched the handwriting of her mother and grandmother.

Cretens called Hoops to see for herself. Sure enough, it was a match. “We’re just so happy that we’re able to bring something so meaningful to somebody around the holidays we’re really happy we’re able to do that for our community,” Ingrid Hornibrook of Hoops said.

Cretens said she plans to look through the box and make some of the recipes in honor of her mom and her grandma’s memory.

“My mom left behind a bunch of recipes boxes and one of her friends, we copied the recipes and put them in a binder to preserve them. So it’s really neat to have more to see if there are different ones, or what’s in there I have no idea,” Cretens said.

Cretens adds she now has a mystery of her own, discovering something they never knew was missing.
