A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly driving while intoxicated with a loaded handgun and his two children in the vehicle, law enforcement officials said.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office reported receiving a call at about 8 p.m. Sunday about a possibly intoxicated driver traveling south on Highway 15 toward Dassel.

A sheriff's deputy located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver drove away from the scene and a pursuit took place. The vehicle was stopped about two miles south of Dassel.

The sheriff's office reported it appeared the 31-year-old driver was intoxicated and he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Deputies also reported two children were in the vehicle at the time.

The driver was taken into custody and a test indicated the man's blood alcohol content was 0.19, which is over twice the legal limit.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, the driver is facing the following charges: fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence, open container violation, carrying a handgun while under the influence and child endangerment.
