Residents of three apartments are displaced, and some pets are missing, after a fire in Ashland on Monday night.

The Ashland Fire Department says the fire in the 300 block of Main Street East was reported at 6:50 p.m. Smoke was coming from attic vents when firefighters arrived and tenants were evacuated a short time later.

The fire was in the attic, and firefighters had to pull down ceilings in three upper apartments to extinguish the fire. A news release said the apartments are unlivable at this time.

No tenants or firefighters were injured.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Washburn, Mason, Marengo, and Bad River fire departments provided mutual aid, and the Ashland Police Department and Ashland Public Works Department also provided assistance.
