Happy December, Families!

With only three weeks of school, this month will speed by!  As the winter weather cooperates, we continue to hold our All School Gatherings outdoors.  These Friday morning traditions are a special part of learning at GES and we are thankful to be able to continue them in a Covid safe manner.  This morning, the Lynx class (Gr. 5/6) donned costumes and led the school in a Recycling Rap, with an added twist:  American Sign Language!  Recycling at GES is the Lynx Environmental Ed daily project, and this group loves their music, so their presentation was a great fit!

A message from Director Rachael

“We are like a snowflake, all different in our own beautiful way.” ~ Unknown

Snowflakes and self-portraits. They may seem an odd pair, but after reading an article about snowflakes today, I can’t seem to think of one without the other. Let me tell you why.

Each class has produced a different style of self-portrait to capture a student’s sense of self at this singular stage of their development. Using watercolors, mixed media, and sewing students have displayed their individuality. Just like snowflakes, each self-portrait has similarities, but their differences are what make each one unique. I can’t wait for everyone to see them!

Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Rachael

A note from The Great Expectations School Foundation

Great Expectations School is thriving and growing!  Each day students explore the natural environment while building the skills to become curious and well rounded adults. The cost of our success is the need to expand, and in this season of giving we are asking you and your extended family members (grand parents, aunts, uncles, etc.) to consider contributing toward a new $2 million facility that will foster our students now and into the future. While the Great Expectations School Foundation (GESF) will fund this expansion through a mortgage and grants, each family's contribution will speed this project toward completion. Each and every contribution will make a difference. A gift of any amount can be sent directly to the GESF at PO Box 310 Grand Marais, MN 55604 or dropped off at the school. We thank you for investing in our kids.
