The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Gilbert. The agency released that a woman and a child died.

First responders were called out around 4pm on Thursday, when the winter weather was making the roads icy and snowy.

The crash report said four vehicles were involved.

According to the report, it started when a Corolla heading west on Highway 135 lost control and hit a Yaris coming the other direction. Then another eastbound car, a Malibu, T-boned the Corolla. Finally, another car rear-ended the Malibu.

The patrol says there were three kids in the Corolla. All were from Aurora. One of them, Dakota John Smith, 11, died from his injuries.

One of them has life-threatening injuries. She's been identified as Madi Lynn Smith, 10. Another child, Dayton James Edward, 6, had non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Corolla, Betty Jean Smith, 32, also died. Her hometown is also listed as Aurora.

The other people in the vehicles either were not hurt or had non life-threatening injuries.
