A few notes from the office:

BinaxNOW At-Home Rapid Covid Tests are available for students at GES on a limited basis.  These tests are best used (and most reliable) when someone is symptomatic. They are not intended to be a replacement for seeking guidance from the clinic, but can be a useful tool.

When a staff or student is sent home with Covid like symptoms, GES will offer a BinaxNOW OTC test. The option to test at Sawtooth Clinic is still available, and is actually recommended if symptoms continue after receiving two negative BinaxNow test results.  For this reason, the kit comes as a two pack, and is administered at home with the understanding that a positive result must be reported to public health and the school.

Do you still have an iPad from school that was sent home for your student during distance learning, last year?  We are short about 10 devices, and would be delighted not to have to order replacements and use funds for students in other ways.  Thanks for checking under beds, and in closets, and other hiding spots!

RECYCLING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – The Lynx classroom’s environmental education project is to collect (and weigh) all the recycling that is kept out of the trash by classrooms!  Please call school if you can help every other week with this project, by bringing these items to the recycle center.  Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you intend to send your child’s $40 materials donation to school, but forgot?  Contact the office if you can’t remember if you sent it and we will look it up for you. (No donation requested for Otters class).

Public Health Update

Vaccination Clinics for 5–11-year-olds will be coming SOON!  Please be on the lookout for the Public Health Media release.

Minnesota has launched ‘Kids Deserve a Shot,’ a vaccine incentives program including a $100,000 scholarship rewarding Minnesotans 12-17 years old for completing their COVID-19 vaccine series. To register:  https://mn.gov/covid19/vaccine/vaccine-rewards/kids-deserve-a-shot/

A note from Director Rachael

October has been a month of change and anticipation. We are settling into the routine of school and welcoming the change of seasons. This month we’ve been enjoying the tastes of fall several ways. The Bear Cubs made apple sauce with Apples they picked from the community orchard. The Beavers, Lynx, and Wolves helped prepare the orchard for winter by weeding, painting, and trimming trees (and eating apples and pressing them into cider). The Otters will be presenting about composting at this week’s school wide assembly. We were also able to enjoy the harvest of GES’ hoop house  by eating the “Stone Soup” Great Lunch prepared for us. Thank you to the Fawns for harvesting the veggies and putting on two performances of the Stone Soup play. Our students and our community truly benefit from the hands on, experiential learning they receive at GES!

Great Lunch

Great Lunch continues to transition and deal with extended absences.  Thank you to our wonderful recent volunteers who have made it possible to continue to serve lunch to students during this time:  Martha Williams, Joe Drotos, Emily Haussner,  Amy Seitz, Abby Tofte, Gederah Waver, Ritalee Walters, Nick Sheehan and Sven Hoaglund!  If I missed anyone - thank you, as well!

There will be a few more days of no Great Lunch, including this coming Monday, November 1st and Friday, November 12 (due to the need to use the great room for Picture Day).  An update from Great Lunch will be sent out, soon.
The Bear Cubs recently worked together to create a mural to hang on their classroom wall. The collaborative work began with circles, and the Bear Cubs built out from the circles to create the finished painting. The Bear Cubs took great care of the art materials, and the painting will be a beautiful addition to the classroom.
As always, please call the office if you have any questions on school-related items.  We are happy to assist you!
