For the first time, Curl Mesabi in Eveleth is hosting an Olympic caliber event. The mixed doubles Olympic trials begin on Tuesday. Crews are busy getting the ice ready and signs up.

10 of the country's top teams will compete for a spot to go on to an Olympic qualifier event in the Netherlands.

Phill Drobnick, director of the mixed doubles program and Team USA coach, said, "We have a ton of Olympians in the field, world medalists in the field. It's a great opportunity to come out and support athletes and support the Olympic rings."

Hockey legend and Curl Mesabi member John Mayasich has a special honor coming up. He'll throw out the first rock during the opening ceremony on Tuesday night. "It's an honor and a privilege. It's great and wonderful it's going to be here at Curl Mesabi," he told us.

He hopes John Shuster will sweep for him.
