A 19-year-old man was killed in a northern Minnesota ATV crash this past weekend. Authorities say speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office says on Saturday at about 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle ATV crash on East Steamboat Forest Road in Steamboat River Township. According to the report, a lone victim suffered substantial injuries and CPR was reported to be in progress while authorities were on their way to the scene.

Life-saving efforts were made, however, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 19-year-old Brandon Czanstkowski, of Buffalo.

An official autopsy will be conducted along with a toxicology report on the victim.

An investigation showed that Czanstkowski and others in the group were traveling east on East Steamboat Forest Road at a high rate of speed. Czanstkowski's ATV entered into a curve when he lost control and struck a tree. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but suffered major head trauma from the impact, the sheriff's office said.

Twenty-one-year-old Tyler Willette, of Watertown, was arrested for a crime of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21, a gross misdemeanor. He has since been released and on probation. His next court appearance is scheduled on Nov. 29.

The crash remains under investigation.
