The Drought Monitor report for Thursday, October 7th reflects improvements for western parts of the Northland region, drier conditions for eastern parts, and continuing conditions for the majority of the Northland.

In that report, the U.S. Drought Monitor reflected improvement for parts of north central Minnesota going from extreme to severe conditions for parts of Cass, Itasca, Beltrami, and Koochiching counties.

There was worsening conditions in parts of northwest Wisconsin with abnormally dry conditions now extending across Sawyer County.

Severe drought continues for northern parts of Bayfield, Ashland and Iron counties in Wisconsin and western Gogebic County in Michigan.

Severe to extreme drought conditions persist across northeast Minnesota. Portions of Cook, Lake, St. Louis, Aitkin, and Itasca counties are under extreme conditions, as well as much of Koochiching County and Beltrami County.

"Widespread improvements were made over much of Minnesota, but even with the recent wetter pattern, lake levels across the state remain low," the report said.
