A deer captured the attention of residents in the Minocqua area this week, seemingly dressed for Halloween.

The deer had a green plastic jack-o'-lantern bucket stuck on its head for about a week.

"It was so sad because the face of the pumpkin on the bucket was right where her face would be. So it was like this sick joke almost," said Arbor Vitae resident Tamee Redifer, who first spotted the deer in her yard on Sept. 18, but said reports of sightings started Sept. 16.

Redifer and her son tried to feed the deer when they spotted it last weekend. She said the deer was acting hungry, but was unable to eat with the plastic bucket covering all but its eyes.

Concerned local residents shared photos on Facebook and contacted local authorities. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office posted updates on Facebook. Oneida County worked with the Minocqua Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to try to help free the deer.

Fortunately, on Friday, Redifer's son found the green trick-or-treat bucket on a bike trail in the woods. The handle had been pulled out and the inside was lined with deer hair.

"We named her Pumpkin," Redifer said. "Pumpkin's free!"

Residents expressed relief on Facebook after hearing the good news.
