Rescue crews recover bodies of two kayakers in Lake Superior off Pictured Rocks

Searchers Friday reportedly recovered the bodies of two kayakers who went missing in Lake Superior at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
The National Park Service, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and other federal and state agencies, launched the search after the two kayakers were reported missing Thursday night. The search included aircraft such as a C-130 and a rescue helicopter, authorities said.
Earlier Friday, the National Park Service had confirmed one fatality but did not provide any details. No names have been released.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the search resumed early Friday morning and the bodies of both individuals were recovered a few miles offshore from Pictured Rocks. Rescue crews battled high winds and 5 to 7 foot waves during the search which covered an area over 516 square miles. Both bodies were recovered a few miles offshore from Pictured Rocks.
The search used assets from the U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, National Park Service, the Civil Air Patrol and the Alger County Sheriff’s Department, authorities stated.
