The inmate who escaped from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center in Saginaw has been found after about 10 hours.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, Branden King, 28, was taken into custody around 6:40 a.m. Saturday.

An off-duty police officer informed authorities that a male matching King's description was found walking on Midway Road near the St. Louis River in Hermantown.

King was taken to the St. Louis County Jail and is expected to be charged with escaping from custody.

Branden King, 28, had been sentenced to NERCC for previous domestic assault convictions.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, they first noticed King was missing while NERCC staff were conducting a headcount around 9:15 p.m. Friday.

After reviewing surveillance video, they saw King heading into the woods outside the facility around 7:28 p.m. that night.

Law enforcement conducted both aerial and ground searches overnight around the facility, which is located at 6102 Abrahamson Road in Saginaw, but couldn't find King.

King's court record includes several misdemeanor and felony convictions, including: domestic assault, receiving stolen property, fleeing from a police officer, theft, and traffic violations.

The Northeast Regional Corrections Center is a minimum/medium security institution providing 144 beds for adult men.

It's operated by Arrowhead Regional Corrections, which is a joint powers agency operated by Carlton, Cook, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.

The facility sits on 3,200 acres bordering both Fish Lake and Caribou Lake.
