CANCELLED;  UPDATE: I am so very sad to write and say that Annie Mack has cancelled her concert here in Grand Marais on Sept. 4, due to unavoidable circumstances. Since we don't have the time to do ample promo for another artist, we will not be seeking a replacement for Sept. 4

It comes as no surprise to those who’ve heard her perform that Annie Mack, the powerful and soulfully riveting singer who writes and performs her own blend of blues, rock, country, and soul, has recently been heralded by the Star Tribune as “Minnesota’s heir to the Mavis Staples throne.”

Raised in North Minneapolis in the 1980s, Mack grew up immersed in the sounds of the funk and soul- rich Twin Cities music scene. Inspired as a young adult by her mother’s love of music, she began performing at local venues, where she soon earned a reputation as a powerhouse blues singer. Before long she gained acclaim on the Midwest bar circuit, followed by top North American festivals including the John Coltrane Jazz Festival and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, and blues and jazz clubs such as Buddy Guy’s Legends and the Dakota.

Over the past eight years Mack has released three acclaimed albums: Baptized in the Blues (2013), Tell It Like It Is (2017), and Testify (2021). She has the honor of being featured in the 2020 book 50 Women in the Blues, along with Bessie Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ruthie Foster, and Janis Joplin.

The North Shore Music Association is thrilled that Annie Mack will be our “let’s get this party re-
started!” artist, bringing back live music to the Arrowhead Center for the Arts after 18 long months.

Tickets are on sale now (no fees) at www.tix.com (search “Arrowhead Center for the Arts”) and at the box office on the night of the show (6:30 pm). Please note: based on recent CDC findings and recommendations regarding the Delta variant, for the continued health and safety of our community we ask that all audience members wear a nose-and-mouth-covering mask when inside the ACA.

This activity is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to legislative appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature’s General Fund and the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
