You only have a few more weeks to travel in the Can of Worms as it's been for years. Ramps are going to be closed and torn down.

Starting on Monday the 2nd, southbound I-35 to northbound 53 ramp will close. That means you can't head up to the mall area on the same route you're used to. MnDOT said the signed detour will follow 35 to 40th Avenue West, and up to Haines Road.

The other ramp that will close is the one that comes from 535 in Wisconsin to northbound 53. The detour will take you along Garfield, to lower Piedmont, to W 1st Street, to 21st Avenue W to northbound 53.

Expect to see temporary traffic lights at Garfield and Railroad Street.

MnDOT also said that starting August 11th, the southbound ramps down 53 to the Can of Worms will close.

"The reason we are doing demolition now, is because those areas are under construction. And we don't want to do demolition when there is traffic underneath them," explained Pete Marthaler,
