The newest of those treasures is a letter that dates back to the 1860's.

The letter was addressed to Clara, the mother of the Congdon family. It came from her cousin, who was one of her good friends.

Glensheen's Collection's Manager, Milissa Brooks-Ojibway, found the letter in the pocket of a small sewing kit over the weekend.

She shared what it was like to hold a piece of history from nearly two centuries ago.

“I love my job and I always feel so privileged to find new things and take care of them,” Brooks-Ojibway said. “It was just a joy to find something we've never seen before.”

In the letter, Clara's cousin writes to her: "I love you very much! How I would like to see you and would like to have you visit me, when the robbins come and play under the tree with my little dishes while they sing us a song."

Brooks-Ojibway said Glensheen Mansion may put the letter on display in the future. 

“It’s now in a place where it can be stabilized and preserved,” Brooks-Ojibway said.
