Lee Radzak began working as the resident historic site manager at Split Rock Lighthouse in 1982. He worked there for more than 30 years, and is sharing the stories of his experience.

The View from Split Rock Lighthouse: A Lighthouse Keeper's Life is written by Radzak and author Curt Brown. 

During a virtual book launch on Thursday, Radzak shares how he turned on the lighthouse on what was then the 10th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, after hearing Gordon Lightfoot’s iconic song on the radio.

"I thought about it, this is the 10th anniversary, this is kind of special deal,” said Radzak. “I've got access to the keys to the lighthouse and the switch for the beacon. When I get home it'll be just dusk and I’m going to turn the beacon on for a few hours and rotate it."
