Galaxy Prescribed Burn scheduled for Friday

Township 59 North, Range 7 West, Section 6. Approximately 5 miles east of the community of Isabella in Lake County, Minnesota.

Purpose:
Areas included in the Galaxy project are timber harvest units where logging activities have taken place. Under favorable weather conditions fire will be broadcasted across the harvest units to consume residual post-harvest slash and layers of organic duff. Treating the units with prescribed fire will clean up the slash to allow for tree planting species such as pine and spruce and improve the overall health of the remaining red and white pine overstory.
Closure Information:
No closure of recreation sites or roadways are anticipated with this prescribed fire. The prescribed fire is likely to impact visibility along Forest Road 172 (Wanless) and/or 174 (Dumbbell) and warning signs will be placed in that area.
