April 26, 2021 - Cook County, Minn. Visit Cook County is pleased to announce the return of JG Everest’s Spring Sound Garden at Harbor Park in Grand Marais, MN. Experience this site-specific outdoor sound and performance installation, featuring a sound installation and live painting, poetry, dance, history, storytelling, and more. The Spring Sound Garden is for listeners of all ages and will be open from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm on May 29-30, 2021.

“We’re so excited to welcome JG Everest back to Cook County, and we’re thrilled to be hosting events safely in person again this year,” said Linda Jurek, Visit Cook County Executive Director. “After the past year, everyone deserves to let their creativity loose. Come share and experience with us as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the beautiful Harbor Park.”

Featured artist JG Everest is a composer and artist creating site-specific outdoor sound and performance installations designed to bring people together safely and celebrate particular places in our communities with combined layers of music, history, storytelling, poetry, visual art, and song.

Everest’s events are self-guided and designed as a disbursed, “open house” experience, allowing people to gather in uncrowded, socially distanced spaces to experience and appreciate a shared history and ecology while still adhering to safety protocols.

“My spatial soundscores are designed and intended to provide an immersive experience for the listener that connects them more deeply to a specific place and time in their lives and community,” said Everest.

Cook County hosted Everest’s first Spring Sound Garden in 2018, during a year-long celebration of all four seasons. Everest hosted sound gardens at notable bodies of water around the state. This year, artists from the Twin Cities will join with several Grand Marais-based artists, including Neil Sherman, Mila Horak, Staci Lola Drouillard and Will Moore, among others, to collaborate and create something truly unique and special for all visitors.
