Several COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the Northland have said they’ve been seeing a significant decrease in appointments the last week, but that they still have a large supply vaccine doses on-hand.

At a recently opened clinic located in UW-Superior's Wessman Arena, they say they’ve seen a large drop-off in their second week of operation. 

Dan Beck, the senior program coordinator for AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, says he believes that this could be due a saturation of vaccination options for people, those who are still concerned about getting the vaccine at all, or, possibly, people putting off getting their vaccines during Spring Break. However, he said his team is ready if there is another upswing.

Beck said that people are easily able to get same-day appointments for their vaccine by web registration or telephone at 844-684-1064 and, once they’re in, that the process is quick.

“It’ll take about 20 minutes total for you to come in, get you vaccination, [wait the] 15 minute wait period once you get your vaccine, and [get] out the door.”

Over at the St. Luke’s vaccine clinic in Duluth, Kelly Zapp, the clinic lead, said she’s sees the decrease in demand as a positive.

“The slow down actually is good because [it means] so many of our community members are actually vaccinated,” she said.

She further elaborated that it also allows them to be more accessible to those who haven’t received the vaccine yet by allowing things like walk-ins for first doses.

The St. Luke’s clinic said they will continue to allow walk-ins until, at least, the end of next week.
