The Minnesota Department of Transportation has scheduled an April 19 virtual meeting to discuss the second year of construction on Highway 61 in Grand Marais.

According to the project website, the highway will be closed completely between 3rd Avenue West and Broadway Avenue from mid-May to August. Only a single northbound/eastbound lane of traffic will be allowed past 8th Avenue West.

Highway traffic will be detoured on 8th Avenue West, County Road 7, and the Gunflint Trail. There will also be a local detour on Wisconsin Avenue.

The closed section of highway in Grand Marais is expected to reopen in early August. Construction will continue until October between 8th Avenue West and 3rd Avenue West, which will be limited to northbound/eastbound traffic.Meanwhile, a stretch of Highway 61 south of Grand Marais will also be closed in August for replacement of the Fall River box culvert. Traffic will be detoured onto County Road 7.

The highway will also be resurfaced between Coyote Ridge and 8th Avenue West, with additional accessibility improvements and drainage repairs between Fall River Road and 8th Avenue West.

The virtual public meeting will be held on April 19 at 4 p.m. using WebEx. Information on how to connect online or via phone is posted at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d1/projects/hwy-61-grand-marais/meetings.html.

A recording of the meeting will be posted on the same website after the meeting has ended.
