During a visit to a COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Plymouth Thursday afternoon, Gov. Tim Walz said he expects the first group of identified COVID-19 vaccine recipients in Minnesota to all have received the vaccine by the end of January or beginning of February.
This initial group includes essential hospital workers and Minnesotans in long-term care facilites.
After that, the plan is to open up the vaccine to many more groups which will be announced at a later date.
Walz emphasized that the state is distributing the vaccine doses to hospitals as quickly as they can get them. He also stated that while the state isn’t out of the woods, progress is being made.
“We’ve got a ways to go here, but this truly is the endgame if we can start to get that critical number of folks vaccinated,” said Walz.
During the visit, Walz also commented on the state’s testing abilities with a message to the public.
“The thing I’ll keep saying is use the testing that we have. Minnesota’s testing system is as robust as anywhere in the country. It’s as easy and it’s free.”
