Ron May, a forty-year electric utility veteran, has completed his new book “Blue Black Water: The Sinking of the C. M. Demson”: a gripping and potent depiction of a sinking vessel on Lake Superior and the leadership skills the crew must display.

“The leadership lessons are imbedded in the storytelling to facilitate the context of the events and allow the outcomes of the action to be internalized and digested. The truths and fiction of the story are supplied for the reader to contemplate and to maybe cause each one to wonder about their own future. I have written this book to help me to never forget how my values and character have shaped how I managed my past. I truly appreciate those people I have studied and worked with over the years. I know these men and women have influenced me to be a more mature and caring man,” writes Ron May.

Published by Page Publishing, Ron May’s thrilling tale follows the crew of an iron ore freighter tackling the waters of Lake Superior. On its routine trek along the waters of the Great Lakes, the C. M. Demson has a crew that knows each other and attempts to work together in the face of adversity. However, on this journey, there is conflict and dynamics that question the integrity of the ship and its crew.

While cruising on Lake Superior, this storied iron ore freighter suddenly becomes unstable and not seaworthy. As such, the ship itself sinks into the blue-black water of Lake Superior, causing chaos and turmoil amongst the crew. After the dramatic sinking, the crew must overcome their hardships to come out of this traumatic event alive. The aftermath of the sinking becomes a study in character and justice, as leadership principles are embedded in the story as a guide to understanding optimal behavior in order to overcome extreme hardship.
