Duluth sees plenty of ships throughout the year, but a rather unique ship is temporarily here to stay.
The Schooner Huron Jewel arrived in Duluth around 6:00pm Sunday evening. She calls Drummond Island, Michigan home and came to Duluth from Madeline Island.
“We're here to bring a tall ship to people's backyards and put a smile on their face,” Julie Covert, owner and first mate of the ship said.
“Just bring face masks, bring your family down,” Covert said. "We'll give you a tour of the boat both on deck and below. We will tell you about her and how she was built."
Hannah McAleer of Minnesota, an intern on the boat, said she was happy to be a part of bringing the boat to Duluth.
“This is just a wonderful opportunity—a great summer adventure. Wish that we could do full passenger trips and that kind of thing, but with COVID happening, we’ve just got to sail around with ourselves,” McAleer said.
If you want to witness the ship in person, she will be parked in Canal and will leave Duluth on Tuesday morning.
More information can be found on the ship's website.
