Air medical transport Life Link III has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing specialized face masks for clinical staff and patients.

Due to concern on PPE shortages and reusing PPE, they have new tiger masks for clinical staff. They help pilots interact with the communication system within the aircraft so that there's no breakdown in communication between crew members, which staff said is crucial to safety of patients and crew members.

The tiger masks come equipped with internal microphones that are compatible with the aviation intercom system and radios.

"It's designed to be reusable with replaceable filters, as well as the ease of cleaning and the ease of turnover in between patients and it's assigned to every Life Link clinician and pilot," said Kolby Kolbet, the vice president of clinical services for Life Link III.

They also have new sea-long helmets that are used to transport patients that are not intubated and are suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients. Staff say it provides a great seal in a way to non-invasively provide ventilation and oxygenation for that patient while protecting crew members.

The helmet provides the patient with a constant flow of oxygenated air, encapsulated completely within a closed helmet. Staff say this significantly reduces the chance of disease transmission.
