Video: New Life for a Northland Lighthouse in Two Harbors

For 20 years, the Lake County Historical Society has been managing the beacon of the Two Harbor’s Lighthouse with the help of four volunteers.
“This is our home. Everybody contributes to their home in some way and this is our way,” Tom Koehler, volunteer said.
Over the years, the beacon has had to be repaired many times.
Last November, the beacon broke beyond repair, requiring a replacement.
On Saturday, a replacement took place, but volunteers hope the replacement will be temporary because they say it will not be the same as the original beacon. For this reason, the Lake County Historical Society is looking to raise $50,000 to purchase an original.
“Every light has a different signature,” Koehler said. “When you think lighthouse, you think of a beam of light sweeping across the waters under the moonlight, you know. This one will just flash,” Koehler said. “If you're a nostalgic person, and what's more nostalgic than a lighthouse? A Fresnel lens is the way to go."
Volunteers hope that purchasing an original lens would bring light to generations to come.
“It really is a connection to history. It is a living connection to history and we want to keep that light alive,” Lynch said.
