The Creative Economy Collaborative (CEC), operating as the Arts Advisory Council to the City of Grand Marais, serves to accelerate the development of Arts and Culture as a key prosperity driver contributing to the social and economic vitality of Cook County. 

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Budget: $1,000 total or $125 per trash can, thanks to the Great Place Project and the Cook County Chamber. Should an artist want to incorporate youth participation into the project, there is an additional $500 stipend available thanks to the Grand Marais Art Colony.

Deadline: July 5, 2020, and rolling thereafter.

The City of Grand Marais is installing 8 additional trash cans in the downtown corridor. This is an open call for artists to apply to design and place original artwork on the exterior of the eight trash cans. All two-dimensional and also low-relief three-dimensional media will be considered. 

See image of barrels below. Barrels are unprimed but tops (as shown in image) are now cut off and true trash can tops are purchased and provided by the city. 

Artists are invited to submit 4 - 6 images of past work in one document (pdf or jpg) as well as up to one page of narrative outlining what/how the artist envisions the subject matter or surface treatment/materials intent for the barrels. Give specific detail to the weather-resistant quality of the materials. 

Artists who wish to include youth participation are asked to outline that specific project as well, including ages, actual youth activities, etc. Note that youth participation is not a requirement to receive funding for the project but that there are additional funds for those artists who want to go this route.

The Creative Economy Collaborative will review all submissions, make final decisions, and communicate with all applicants by July 9, 2020. Work is requested to commence directly thereafter and be completed no later than July 31, 2020.
