3-year-old boy killed, 4 others hospitalized in crash in northern Minnesota

A 3-year-old boy is dead and four others are in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Becker County.

According to a crash report from the Becker County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a crash around 4:08 p.m. on County Road 151 near 440th Avenue in Evergreen Township, east of Detroit Lakes.

A 2001 Ford pickup was headed eastbound on County Road 151 when it struck a 2004 Dodge SUV. After the two vehicles collided, the Ford left the road and rolled over into the north ditch, the crash report stated.

The driver of the Ford, Kristopher Lee Engle, 34, of Frazee, Minnesota, and three other occupants of the pickup were taken to hospitals with unknown injuries, according to the sheriff's office. A fifth passenger, a 3-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the Dodge, driven by Chad Raymond Bladow, 29, of Lake Park, were treated at the scene, according to the report.

Identities are being withheld pending family notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
