From the Cook County Emergency Operations Center - June 5, 2020
Thanks to the generosity of its many donors, the Cook County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been able to supply cloth face coverings and other requested items to local medical staff and requesting businesses.
"The outpouring of support has been incredible," EOC Logistics Officer Lori Ericson said today. "We've received 3,273 items, including 2,043 homemade cloth face coverings, and we've distributed all but a small supply to essential workers and requesting businesses."
Recipients include local healthcare and medical support employees, city and county employees, grocery store employees and volunteers, and employees of local businesses.
Ericson said that, while the EOC does have a few cloth face coverings on hand that can be used to replenish local organizations, it does need more.
"We don't have an urgent need right now, but that will likely change when we have confirmed cases in Cook County," Ericson said. "Additionally, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic has asked for a supply of masks with elastic loops rather than ties, and we are hoping to help them meet this need."
Patterns for cloth face coverings with elastic ties are widely available on the Internet, Ericson said, and the pattern with ties is still available on the EOC's COVID-19 hub site, http://www.cookcountycovid19.org. Individuals wishing to make donations should contact the donations manager at tel: 2183873668 or mailto: [email protected].
The EOC is accepting donations of the following items:
