Superior Fire Chief Scott Gordon says crews are actively battling a fire at the Superior Landfill.

"The fire is being contained with water located on site which is per the pre-plan. Heavy equipment operators from the City of Superior are responding to position the burning garbage in a strategic way while the fire crews will cover them with water supplies," Gordon wrote in a news release.

Gordon says the fire has happened several times before and adds it usually takes several hours to extinguish it safely.

Off duty fire fighters are at the stations to insure the city is still covered for any additional 911 calls, Gordon says.
