From Grand Marais Ruby's Pantry Site -  June 2, 2020

Welcome to summer on the North Shore!  On such a glorious day it was tough to come back inside to remind everyone that our next Ruby's Pantry will be a week from today.

We will continue with our drive through again this month. We still encourage all of you with risks of any sort – age, physical condition, living situations, not feeling completely well– to stay away again this month.  We may have a few tasks for youth under the age of 16, so please send me an email to discuss if interested.

The most important change this month is parking.  In addition to not parking on Creechville Road, please do not park on the north side of Fifth Street.  North is the side with the community center, YMCA  and school.  We had traffic backed up onto Fifth Street last month, and now that it is part of the detour, we want help keep traffic flowing.

We will have three different “shifts”
2:00 – Set up tables, unload carts and supplies
2:30 – Unload truck / set up products
3:30 – Assign carts / set aside volunteer bundles
If you can’t come until after 4:00, we will have a place for you as we get up to speed.  We will publicize an opening time of 4:30, but we will start earlier if we are ready.

If you are coming, please reply and let me know what times you plan to be there.
That’s the important stuff, see other details below.  Please send an email if you have any questions.

Protection
Every volunteer should have a face covering.  We will have a limited number of masks available.  If you don’t have your own mask, please come with a scarf, bandana, turtle or some other mechanism to cover your nose and mouth.
We will have nitrile gloves and hand sanitizer available.  There will be access to the washrooms for hand washing.
As far as possible, we will set up all tasks with appropriate social distancing.  If you are not comfortable with the task you’re doing, please find me.  I’ll be wearing a yellow safety vest and a Ruby’s Pantry ball cap.
Process
Guests will approach the Community Center from the Gunflint Trail intersection of Creechville Road.  We will meet our guests’ vehicles at the entrance to the parking lot to find out the number of bundles they want and to collect the donation.  Guests will drop their money or certificates into a basket, and a number will be put on their car for each bundle.  Guests will then go into the parking lot where volunteers will load bundles into the trunks of the vehicles.  Guests will remain in their car and are requested to make sure their trunks have space to load the food bundles.
Volunteers who want a bundle will let Melodee Riddle know at the volunteer check-in table.  They will be provided with a post-it with a bundle number.  As soon as we are set up, volunteers can collect their bundle and place it at the west side of the arena with their post-it note.

Parking and sign-in
Volunteers should park on the south side of 5th Street or on one of the avenues.  We will need all the space in the parking lot for the drive-thru.  Please DO NOT park on Creechville Road or the north side of 5th Street

Enter the arena through the door near the skate park.  The volunteer sign-in table will be along the north wall.  Please sign-in when you arrive, and sign-out when you leave. There are start and end columns on the sign in sheet, so please fill these in when you come and before you leave.  If you want any bundles, the sign-in sheet has a column for the number of bundles.

Please send donations to  Ruby’s Pantry, P.O. Box 5, Grand Marais, MN 55604
