Big Top Chautauqua has canceled all summer 2020 concerts and events at the Washburn, Wis., venue.

It would have been the nonprofit's 34th season. Big Top Board of Directors President Kim Ogle is also a physician at Essentia Health's Ashland clinic.

"We are deeply saddened to have to cancel the Big Top summer season but due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic and variability of what to expect this summer, we felt it was the ethical and right thing to do," Ogle said in a press release.

People who have already bought tickets can opt to make a contribution to the performing arts nonprofit, apply the money toward future concerts or get a refund. You can find more information on the Big Top Chautauqua website.

They say they are very grateful to their donors, volunteers and patrons.

"As our stage may sit empty through the summer, we recognize even more now the value and power of experiencing music together," Advancement Director Kate Barido said. "We are calling this a 'Long Intermission' until we can gather again."

The Big Top's Blue Canvas Orchestra will be working on new material for 2021 and putting on a "Tiny Tent Show" online on Facebook and YouTube. That will happen at 7 p.m. Fridays.
