The Census response rate for Cook County stands at 13.7%. The State of Minnesota self-response is at 58.1%. I am sad to say that right now out of 87 counties Cook County is dead last at #87 in the rate of responses!

It has been a tough time for us, particularly the past few days, and I do want to acknowledge that. But I also know that we cannot afford to miss any federal funding as we come out of this public health and economic crisis. I think a primary reason our numbers are low is because people are waiting to get a notification with a census ID. Citizens are only notified by mail if they receive their mail at their physical address. Postal notifications about responding to the census do not come to post office boxes.

The letters and written forms are hand delivered to addresses not receiving mail at the physical location of residence. The workers who signed up to deliver those are held up right now because of COVID-19. So you have the option to to go online or call to complete their census information. Everyone can respond online or on the phone without a census ID.

Online responses are at www.2020census.gov responders can simply bypass the 12-digit census ID by clicking on “If you do not have a Census ID, click here.

Responders can also call in their information at 844-330-2020. See the  attached PDF for more information. Participation or lack or participation will impact our community for the next 10 years.
