This Valentine's Day marks the 5th Annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women's Memorial March in Duluth.

The event is hosted by the Native Lives Matter Coalition and co sponsored by a number of other local organizations. Reneann Goodrich with the Native Lives Matter Coalition said, “We’ve got many signed up and many interested, so we anticipate a couple hundred at least.”

Thursday, volunteers worked on art pieces that community members can use to show their support for the families of lost loved ones. They made signs and screen printed red shawls that will be handed out when marchers gather at AICHO.

Survivor and artist Korii Northrup helped volunteers with the screen printing.

Northrup said, "We like to see them throughout the year, so it's not just having them on Valentine's Day or specifically for the march. I like to see them around town. That's probably my favorite thing about doing an event like this is then seeing my designs later on around town."

Organizers are excited about the growing support families are receiving this year from the community and the Duluth Police Department.

"We will be taking the lead on the march and they'll be closing the block down. So we're pretty excited about that," Goodrich said, "It represents that beautiful support that we're getting from the City of Duluth and the police department."

The march will begin at 1 PM at AICHO. Anyone is invited to join and where red in solidarity to support those who have lost loved ones.
