From the North Superior Ski and Run Club - December 27, 2019

Come to Grand Marais to participate in the only Ski Race in Cook County, MN and one of the oldest! The North Superior Ski and Run Club has been building and maintaining the beloved
Pincushion Mountain Trail Syem for over 40 years and this racing event serves as both a huge annual celebration of their commitment to community running and skiing, but also as their main fundraiser for the year. The NSSRC is also the organizers and the sponsors of many of the youth skiing and running programs in the community, including the Y-Ski program, and both of the Vikings high school athletic teams for Cross Country Running and Cross-Country Skiing.

Event will be held at the Pincushion Mountain Trail System with free music, food, and warm beverages for spectators and racers in the warming shack. Outside there will be a giant bonfire for roasting marshmallows, pros on site to discuss skiing and waxing techniques, and more. Participate in fun activities like Human Bowling and Tug o’ War!

Registration for this race will open in January 2020, but we are encouraging folks to start to book their vacations around this time early!

Schedule of Races:
10:00 AM: Start of 30km Classic Ski Race
10:50AM: 10km Classic and Woody Ski Race
11:00AM: 10km Skate Race
11:15AM: 3km Competitive Kid’s Race
12:30PM: Awards
1:00PM: Family Ski
2:00PM: Skijor Race

The race is held one week before the epic American Birkebeiner and would be a great opportunity for any Birkie participant who would like to test their mettle before the big race.
