From John Twiest of Arrowhead Electric Cooperative:

On Halloween and the following Thursday 11/7, the electric transmission line feeding the North Shore experienced outages. Arrowhead Cooperative, the City of Grand Marais PUC, Coop Light and Power, and Minnesota Power customers were all impacted. Both events occurred on the overhead line owned and operated by Minnesota Power south of Silver Bay. Minnesota Power was able to track the outages back to a broken insulator on one of their poles. This has been repaired.

Arrowhead Cooperative is known for ‘connecting the tip of the Arrowhead’. This also means we are at the end of the line for the transmission grid and we are unfortunately a bit more vulnerable to events beyond our control. With winter in mind, here is a link to an article on more information on what to do in the event of a sustained power outage, https://www.boreal-emergency.org/2019/02/24/189411/video-surviving-a-power-outage-during-a-winter-storm
