From Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Public Health and Human Services - November 1, 2019

Adverse Childhood Experiences are more than just unpleasant occurrences that happened to someone when they were young.  ACEs include traumatic events like physical or emotional abuse or neglect, sexual abuse, caregiver mental illness, household violence, or parental incarceration.  The original research about ACEs surveyed over 17,000 people, and the results revealed that ACEs are common across all populations.

Check out the November 2019 Topic of the Month to learn more about:
  • why the effects of childhood stress can be felt long into adulthood.
  • what a "dose-response" is and what that means for ACEs.
  • how we, as a community, can both prevent ACEs and buffer their effects.
