Public open houses scheduled on the Tofte Landscape Project

Media Release from the Superior National Forest - October 8, 2019

The Tofte Ranger District of the Superior National Forest (Forest) is proposing a new and innovative project to manage forest vegetation across the entire district over the next 15 years.

Typically, the Superior National Forest proposes to manage forest vegetation on a static set of forest stands. The Tofte Landscape Project is different in that it will utilize condition-based management. Condition-based management allows resource managers to select different management treatments that respond to current on-the-ground resource conditions as they evolve through time.

This flexibility will be more effective in improving forest health and resiliency over the life of the project and increasing collaboration with both partners and the public, resulting in better management for forest health and resiliency.

More information is available on the Tofte Landscape Project StoryMap website. https://arcg.is/10aj4X Information on the project is also available on the project website. Go to www.fs.usda.gov/goto/superior/projects and open the Tofte Landscape Project webpage.

The Forest Service is hosting two open houses where Forest Service staff will be available to answer questions and provide information about the project.
