“Community members that drive electric vehicles are always excited to see more charging stations because even though most of our charging is done at home in our garages at night, when we hit the road and we go on a trip and take in places like beautiful Two Harbors—a destination city up the North Shore, the beautiful North Shore of Minnesota, people need to have that confidence that they can charge when they’re out on the road as well,” Frank Frederickson, Vice President of Customer Experience at Minnesota Power said.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place in Two Harbor’s Downtown District Thursday morning, where community members celebrated the benefits of renewable energy.

“We were just thrilled to see that Two Harbors was so forward thinking to put in two chargers,” Mark Gordon, Electric Car Owner said.

The Two Harbor’s charging stations are part of a larger project that aims to provide the state of Minnesota with renewable energy. So far, they have placed charging stations in Duluth, Virginia and Ely—with another being built in Motley. The statewide project intends to bring to bring more visitors to the Northshore.

“Having Two Harbors having two stations that are free, that are powered by solar panels, I mean that’s a real draw for any electric car owner as far as knowing that they can take a trip to the North Shore now in their electric car and stop and top off their car here and then go up and have dinner in town or do some shopping while its being charged. It’s just a win, win all the way around,” Gordon said.

Minnesota Power, who’s energy is currently 30 percent renewable hopes to be 50 percent renewable by 2021. The electric vehicle charging stations and solar panel will surely contribute.
