Arrowhead Electric Cooperative has awarded a $5,000 grant to Boreal Community Media to support the Boreal Student Technology Intern program.  The grant funds will be used to continue to support the student technology program.  These grant dollars are part of the "Sharing Success" program through CoBank, which matched funds that Arrowhead Electric designated for the technology intern program.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be the recipient of this generous grant from Arrowhead Electric.", said Boreal Community Media Board Chair Jeff Latz of Lutsen, "These funds will help give Cook County students a head start in following their interests in pursuing careers in information technology."

Started in 2018, the Boreal Student Technology internship programs allows high school students at Cook County Schools to get real world, hands on experience in the fields of computer science and information technology.  Students also offer the community free technology support in several different venues - at free Community Tech events throughout the year, monthly visits to assist community members at The Hub (formerly the Cook County Senior Center) and through office visits for Boreal members at the Boreal offices in the Cascade Building in Grand Marais.

Arrowhead Electric served as host location for two West End Technology Support events in Lutsen earlier this summer.  The Boreal Student Technology program has twice received grants from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation, who continue to be a major sponsor of the program.

Boreal Community Media also was among the community sponsors of a Student Technology Boot Camp held in August which was made possible by a collaboration of Cook County Schools, Cook County Higher Education and generous donations by community members.  Boreal Community Media is planning to expand the Tech Bootcamp in 2020.
