Technical Issues Impact Board Meeting Livestream Video

Jun 26, 2019 03:43PM ● By Editor

June 26, 2019 – During the June 25 Board of Commissioners Meeting, Cook County experienced intermittent interruptions in its Broadband service that caused the livestream to stop, resulting in sections of the meeting not being captured in the video. County IT staff addressed the situation quickly, re-establishing the livestream connection each time it was lost; however, portions of the meeting when the livestream was down are missing from the archived video.

While not required to do so, Cook County offers live-streaming and archived video-on-demand for its regular Board of Commissioners Meetings to provide greater access to public information for all, as well as transparency in local government.

This service is provided as a no-cost solution using an unstaffed camera and a free YouTube video service. This solution saves the County $15,000-20,000 annually by eliminating technical resources and the need for an individual to video and archive the meetings.

We apologize for any inconvenience these issues may have caused, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to continue to improve this service while minimizing costs.
