Woman's Day magazine highlights several non-coastal vacation spots for great summer family adventures, including Minnesota's North Shore.

The article's introduction says:

"Warm weather and sunny days are here, which can only mean one thing: It's time to make those family adventures you’ve been daydreaming about at your desk a reality. We’ve got a list of charming towns, under-the-radar parks, and one amazing road trip that'll make good use of your PTO."

Here's the article's description of the North Shore.

"The drive along State Highway 61 from Duluth to the Canadian border is postcard perfect. There are forests, lighthouses, and cottage towns all set against a sparkling Lake Superior backdrop. Known as the North Shore, Minnesota, this area has eight beautiful state parks to explore.

Gooseberry Falls State Park boasts five waterfalls while Split Rock Lighthouse and State Park is picturesque perched on a rugged, lakeside cliff. At Tettegouche State Park, look for falcons and other rare birds that come to nest.

gondola up the side of Moose Mountain to lunch at Summit Chalet or a chairlift up Eagle Mountain for a half-mile alpine slide are a few more ways to explore the Sawtooth Mountains. When you’re ready to relax, stop at Black Beach (it’s exactly like it sounds) in Silver Bay or at the salmon-colored shore of Iona’s Beach."
