With ropes dangling above the ground, connected by different obstacles that weave through the trees, and platforms that scale up to more than 40 feet high, the new Adventure Park on the North Shore is already turning heads among the locals.
"We've been excited for this course. We've been watching it go up," said Jeremy Kasapidis of Silver Bay, Minn.
On the official opening day of the new park, Jeremy and his daughter Sydney got to test it out. Sydney even conquered her fear and tried zip-lining for her first time.
The tangled web of a course stretches more than two miles long, offering six different courses that progress according to their difficulty and are labeled by colors.
"The yellow is for beginners," explained CEO of Outdoor Adventures Bahman Azarm. "If you're a little bit scared of heights and you're a little concerned about where your foot is going to go, start on the yellow. Then, when you conquer that, you'll go onto the green," he added.
Azarm first experienced an aerial forest park back in 2006 in Switzerland.
"When we went as a family, it really blew us all away because it was so much fun," he said.
Since then, he's brought the idea to the United States and now owns 8 adventure parks, including the newest one in Minnesota that sits in a prime location right along Highway 61.
"If you're a local, you know what the traffic is like on Highway 61 in the summertime," said General Park Manager Natalie Rick. "Being right on the road, that's going to be huge."
Operated by locals, park employees hope that outdoor adventure lovers take a break from their normal north shore trip to the beach or climbing rocks to try out this new adventure park which consists of climbing among the trees.
"Everybody up here is into the hunting and fishing and the outdoors and now, this is just something different," added Rich.
