Media Release from the City of Grand Marais - March 6, 2019
The City of Grand Marais is seeking proposals from qualified developers to purchase and redevelop a parcel that is 133’x225’ in size and located at the southwest corner of Broadway Avenue and 1st Street.
The parcel, owned by the City, is one of the largest in the premier downtown Grand Marais area. Currently, the City owns an approximately 12,000 sq’ building which houses City Hall, the Grand Marais Municipal Liquor Store, the Cook County Grand Marais EDA, an office of AEOA, and the Cook County Chamber of Commerce. A recent evaluation of this building determined that renovation to address condition issues is not a cost effective option.
Due to the central location of the property in the heart of commercial downtown Grand Marais, the City wishes to explore private commercial development of the site prior to making a decision about the location of a new City Hall and/or liquor store facility.
