Danger - Stay off the Ice
Feb 22, 2019 06:49PM ● By EditorMedia Release from the Cook County Department of Emergency Management - February 22, 2019
Dozens of people, including children, have been seen going out on the ice in and around the Grand Marais Harbor, beyond the break wall, and area shores. The ice is not safe folks! With Lake Superior’s constant movement under the ice, soft spots and shifting, there is no way to tell the depths and safety factor.
Hypothermia can develop in no time with minimal exposure. We value the safety of our residents, visitors and responders - don’t take a chance. We don’t want curiosity to turn into an avoidable tragedy!
